New passenger terminal, Qingdao, PR of China
Competition entry

Inspired by traditional Chinese architecture, the rectangular terminal constitutes one of four buildings around a courtyard. A red cube accommodating all security controls for arriving and departing passengers penetrates the entire building.

The departure concourse is planned as a unique shopping mall, mixing retail units, cafes and bars with seating areas aligned along the airside. This spatial arrangement facilitates last minute shopping before boarding.The new terminal is designed for a capacity of 5 million passengers per annum (mppa).
