Design of an office building complex for new HQ for Frequency Allocation
Board in Islamabad, Pakistan
Winning competition entry
The building typology is based on a traditional courtyard scheme, to provide maximum environmental benefit. The office and circulation plans are organised around a central atrium, which favours natural ventilation and draws light from the glass roof to every level. Communication is encouraged across all floors by connecting the communal and circulation areas.
The façade embraces the use of traditional stone. A contemporary pattern of glass openings punctuates the exterior so-as-to directly correspond with the internal layout of the building. The largest opening represents the main entrance to the foyer and courtyard, with view corridors penetrating the block.
